After effectively settling their labor-related complaints using the Single-Entry Approach, over 1,000 workers in Eastern Visayas won monetary claims totaling PHP15.6 million (SEnA).

According to a news release issued on Saturday by the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) regional office, 82 percent of the 812 requests for assistance (RFAs) filed last year under the SEnA program were handled, exceeding the required objective of 70 percent.

SEnA is an administrative technique to provide a quick, unbiased, low-cost, and accessible resolution procedure to prevent labor difficulties or conflicts from escalating into full-fledged labor disputes or genuine labor lawsuits.

The remaining 147 RFAs were either canceled or forwarded to the National Labor Relations Commission or other government agencies.

In 2021, the majority of the RFAs focused on underpayment and nonpayment of 13th-month salary and holiday pay.

DOLE Regional Office 8 Director Henry John Jalbuena remarked, “I would want to applaud all of our SEADOs (Single-Entry Assistance Desk Officers) for genuinely putting their hearts into the numerous programs of the department, particularly the SEnA program.”

In Tuguegarao City, DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III oversaw the awarding of bicycles on Friday at the Cagayan State University – Andrews Campus gymnasium.

199 family members of Cagayan Valley Medical Center employees benefited from the Free Bisikleta (FreeBis) project.

A helmet, raincoat, thermal bag, water bottle, and PHP5,000 mobile phone load were supplied with each bicycle.

FreeBis is a long-term assistance program for pandemic-affected workers in the formal and informal sectors.
