CEBU CITY, Philippines – A health official said Friday that vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is going well in Metro Cebu, with nearly 6,000 youngsters receiving their first dose during the campaign’s first five days.

The immunization of the younger children garnered good support from parents, according to Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, head pathologist of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7)

“Considering that our launch is only a few days away, this is quite a good response.” In addition, Cebu City and Liloan Town began vaccinations for their children on Wednesday, two days after the rest of Metro Cebu’s LGUs (local government units),” Loreche stated in a statement to the media.

She noted that other municipalities in Metro Cebu and other towns in the province will begin pediatric immunization next week, as the DOH-7 guaranteed the public that enough vaccine doses for this age group were available.

“It’s also possible that we need to urge more parents to bring their children to the immunization site,” she continued.

A total of 121,184 children aged 5 to 11 are expected to be eligible for the specially designed Pfizer vaccine, according to the DOH-7.

Meanwhile, the municipal administration resumed drive-through vaccination at the New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (NOAH) Complex in South Road Properties on Friday.

In a statement, NOAH Complex manager Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera said, “This is one approach to encourage more people to get vaccinated, given that we’ve noticed a diminishing number of people who are receiving their shots.”

Adults, senior citizens, and people with comorbidities can get an inoculation by drive-thru Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
