According to Vicente Malano, administrator of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the nation may experience six to nine further tropical cyclones by the end of the year.

He predicted two to four tropical cyclones in October, two to three in November, and up to two in December in a public briefing.

Malano claimed that PAGASA has been working hard to prepare for powerful tropical cyclones. Hazard mapping and informational campaigns are a couple of these.

He urged everyone to always abide by PAGASA advisories. He also asked people to become familiar with meteorology terms.

“They must act after a warning from PAGASA. People occasionally believe that tropical cyclones are weak, but they should be aware that we classify tropical cyclones according to their wind speeds. We also issue advisories for rain. Don’t assume that a weak tropical cyclone would result in minor rains. According to him, PAGASA has also classified safe regions and areas vulnerable to flooding. The local governing bodies received the hazard maps.

Malano also emphasized the need for regular checks on the structural integrity of homes and other buildings, particularly in regions frequently hit by severe winds.

Regarding PAGASA, he claimed that the bureau frequently inspected its observational facilities. The agency also researches forecasting techniques.

The nation has already had three super typhoons this year, two of which missed any landmass. The third was “Karding,” which recently generated severe winds and damp conditions over sections of Luzon.

In 2020 and 2021, the nation was pounded by four super typhoons each, according to Malano.
