To combat the Omicron danger, PH has expanded its red list.’
Malacanang announced on Sunday that the Philippines has added seven additional countries to its “red list” in order to combat the spread of the new Omicron version of Covid-19.
According to a press announcement from Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has added Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy to the red list.
South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique are already on the list.
South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe were on the “green” list before the embargo was announced on Friday.
After December 15, the red list, or regions considered “high-risk” for Covid-19, will be revised.
“Inbound foreign travel by all persons, regardless of vaccination status, arriving from or having visited red list countries/jurisdictions/territories during the last 14 days before to arrival at any port of the Philippines shall be prohibited,” Nograles added.
Only Filipinos returning to the nation via government- or non-government-sponsored repatriation, as well as so-called Bayanihan (Cooperation) flights, will be granted admission, subject to the current entry, testing, and quarantine protocols for red-list countries/jurisdictions/territories.
Passengers in transit and those who visited the red list countries/territories/jurisdictions within the 14 days prior to arriving in the Philippines and arrive before 12:01 a.m. on November 30 will be exempt from the restrictions.
Despite a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) result, they will be quarantined at a facility for 14 days, with testing on the seventh day, with day 1 being the day of arrival.
Passengers who arrived before November 28 and are currently undergoing quarantine based on their country of origin’s classifications will have their testing and quarantine protocols completed.
Passengers transiting through the red countries, whether Filipinos or foreigners, will not be considered to have come from or visited the country if they stayed at the airport the entire time and were not permitted for entrance by immigration authorities.
They must, however, adhere to established testing and quarantine regulations.
The Omicron form of Covid-19 was deemed “of concern” by the World Health Organization on Friday.
It was first reported to the WHO on November 24 by South Africa, and it has since been found in Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Israel.
Travel restrictions to and from southern Africa have already been enforced by a number of countries.
