SAN FERNANDO CITY, PAMPANGA – At least 12 modernized jeepneys will soon service the province’s major routes.

This comes as four cooperatives providing transportation services in the city launched 12 air-conditioned public utility jeepneys (PUJs) on Wednesday as part of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

The Kapampangan Transport Service Cooperative, the Lubao Transport Service Cooperative, the Guagua/Betis/Bacolor Transport Service Cooperative, and the One Mexico Prime Transport Service Cooperative have all expressed an interest in deploying modern jeepneys throughout the province.

Ahmed G. Cuizon, regional head of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), commended the four cooperatives for embracing the PUV modernization program.

Cuizon stated that modern PUJs are environmentally friendly, safe, secure, and comfortable, taking into account the needs of disabled individuals (PWDs).

“With this development, commuters from across the province will now have access to air-conditioned, spacious, safe, and convenient modernized PUJs,” he said during the launch at the Capitol grounds here.

He also confirmed that the LTFRB will continue to provide technical assistance to the province’s transportation cooperatives.

The PUVMP is the Duterte administration’s flagship non-infrastructure project, with the goal of ensuring a comfortable life for all Filipinos by providing a safe, reliable, convenient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable public transportation system.
