MANILA, Philippines — At the Bureau of Immigration, a total of 133,557 foreigners have completed their yearly report (BI).

According to BI alien registration chief Jose Carlitos Licas, who cited the most recent data as of Wednesday, the foreigners who showed up at the BI for the yearly report from January 1 to March 1 were largely Chinese nationals, with 63,659.

Indians (17,728), Americans (7,780), Taiwanese (6,653), South Koreans (4,991), Vietnamese (4,464), Japanese (3,725), Indonesians (2,929), British (2,705), and Malaysians (2,103) are among the other nations represented.

Commissioner Jaime Morente said the online appointment mechanism allowed them to process the annual report while maintaining tight physical separation in their offices throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

“We expect that as we go into the new normal, the number of foreign nationals in the Philippines will rise once more,” he said.

At the same time, Licas stated that the number of foreigners filing reports this year was just marginally more than the 130,148 who did so in 2021.

He went on to say that the low number was predicted due to a spike in coronavirus infections caused by the highly transmissible Omicron type, and that foreigners had to first register and secure slots through the bureau’s online appointment system before filing their report.

Foreign nationals who have a BI-issued immigrant or non-immigrant visa are required to submit an annual report.

According to the rules of the Alien Registration Act of 1950, yearly reporting takes place within the first 60 calendar days of each year.
